I am an artist who works between the various mediums of painting, drawing and printmaking. Landscape carries the narrative of my life and is a reflection of who I am.
I combine a penchant for mark-making with emotion, mood and drama in the traditional romantic landscape. My aim is to invoke the spirit and feeling of the natural world. Using energetic marks and mixed media I invite the viewer to experience and connect with the air, light, space and textures in the landscape.
Working en plein air provides a never-ending source of new beginnings and allows me to connect with the landscape. connecting to the landscape is necessary to the development of the work and a valuable part of the process. I work in series, and I tend to zig-zag between suites of work and can return to a series a new years later. However, there is a signature mark that forms a thread through my work. This signature mark is in representational and abstract work and appears regardless of media.
As an artist, educator, and mentor for 30 years, I am passionate about art. I currently live and work at Yandina, on the Sunshine Coast. My home is on bush acreage where I balance my time working in the studio and en plein air as well as teaching art at TAFE Queensland East Coast.
